The nicotine and tar in tobacco

The nicotine and tar in tobacco smoke can cause yellow or stained teeth. Brushing your teeth several times a day is one way to improve their appearance. This not only prevents staining, it also protects against gum disease. It also helps to choose a toothpaste that’s designed to fight teeth stains for people who smoke.

Acid

Sugar in soda combines with bacteria in your mouth to form acid. This acid, plus the extra acid from soft drinks, attacks the teeth. Each acid attack lasts about 20 minutes, and acid attacks start over again with every sip. Ongoing acid attacks weaken tooth enamel.. just be careful to have soft drinks with your main meals do not have them as snack for example seating in your office in front computer taking soft drinks every hour… specially in this hot weather is more inviting to have cold drinks more often.

Citric juices

A study published this year in the Journal of Dentistry showed that orange juice decreased enamel hardness by 84 percent. Lemon, orange and grapefruit juice can strip away the enamel with their acidity.

TIP 1. When you drink orange juice, have it in one sitting versus sipping it over a longer period.

TIP 2. Use a straw to limit juice exposure on your teeth.

TIP 3. Match citric foods with less acidic ones, like grapefruit slices in a salad.
